NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced its Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Pre Stanley led the Mountaineers to a 2-0 start for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign. The senior averaged 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in the two victories, while leading the Black and Gold in scoring, assists and free throw shooting. Stanley scored game highs in both contests. She saved her best for last, scoring 31 of her 45 total points in the second half including 22 in the fourth quarter. Against Charlotte, Stanley’s 20 points, seven assists and six boards gave the Rockledge, Fla., native her first-career game with at least 20 points, five assists and five rebounds. The seven helpers against the 49ers tied a personal best as well.
Stanley scored 15 points in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s win over UNCA. She scored the game’s final nine points to seal the victory, outscoring the Bulldogs in the final period, 15-13, by herself. The senior guard jumped to 16th all-time in school history in points scored (1,204) and seventh all-time in free throws made with 303.
This season, the 12 Sun Belt women’s basketball programs will be split into an East Division and a West Division to minimize travel amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Teams will play each other on back to back days (Fridays and Saturdays) at the same location. Conference openers are set for New Year’s Day 2021.
All 12 teams will compete in the Sun Belt Conference Championship which will be held March 5-8, 2021 in Pensacola, Fla.
