WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College Department of Athletics is saddened to hear about the passing of Sheryl Neff, the longtime Bulldogs Head Softball Coach (1996-2016).
Neff, who lost her long battle with cancer last week, also coached the Barton Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams for nearly a decade beginning in 2001 and assisted with the Bulldogs’ Women’s Basketball squad.
Neff is Barton’s all-time winningest coach on the diamond with 371 victories over 21 years and served as a faculty member in the College’s Department of Physical Education and Sport Studies. Neff coached the Bulldogs’ first All-American in softball in 2011 as well in Jessica McFadden.
“Barton College Athletics is saddened by the passing of Sheryl Neff,” said Director of Athletics Todd Wilkinson. “Coach Neff served Barton softball for 21 years and mentored hundreds of student-athletes during her time as head coach, faculty member and FCA advisor. Her legacy will live on through the lives she has touched and changed as a leader during her time at Barton.”
“Barton Athletics extends condolences to her family and the Bulldogs’ Softball, Cross Country and Women’s Basketball alumni that she coached and the students and countless others she has influenced in positive ways,” added Wilkinson.
