GREENVILLE, S.C. – Andrew Kohut and Liam Maxwell of Belmont Abbey have both been tabbed to the 2020 U.S. Men’s Collegiate National Team.
A sophomore opposite from Naperville, Ill., Kohut was the 2019 Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year. In the shortened 2020 season, Kohut averaged 2.95 kills per set in 56 sets played (18 matches). He also averaged 1.20 digs per set.
A senior outside hitter out of Manahawkin, N.J., Maxwell was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Year in Conference Carolinas in the 2020 season. He earned the honor after leading all of men’s volleyball with 4.53 kills per set. Maxwell also had 1.08 digs per set in the shortened 2020 season in 64 sets played (17 matches).
The selection process was an open video tryout to all collegiate athletes. They shared links to their game film for review and their VolleyMetrics stats from before the NCAA cancelation were also analyzed.
Unfortunately, due to the regional and national responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team will not be able to train and compete together this summer. However, USA Volleyball still wanted to acknowledge these talented athletes.
