GREENVILLE, S.C. – Shanika Peterkin of Barton has been selected as the Herff Jones Conference Carolinas Female Athlete of the Year for the 2019-20 academic year.
The fourth female from Barton to earn the prestigious honor, Peterkin put together a historic 2019-20 season on the court.
Peterkin was chosen as the Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year this past season.
A junior center from Virginia Beach, Va., Peterkin finished out her 2019-20 season averaging 18.5 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game. Peterkin was named Conference Carolinas Player of the Week five times during the 2019-20 season.
Peterkin was a third team selection on the Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-America Teams and an Honorable Mention All-America choice by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
