GREENVILLE, S.C. – UNC Pembroke, led by 2021 Conference Carolinas Runner and Freshman of the Year Jackline Kosgei, has been picked to win the Conference Carolinas Women’s Cross Country crown as they claimed the top spot in the Women’s Cross Country Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
The conference office officially unveiled the preseason poll on Aug. 18, 2022. The preseason poll was voted on by the league’s head coaches.
The Braves edged 2021 Conference Carolinas champion King for the top spot with 135 points and three first-place votes. King, who has won two of the last three conference titles, claimed the second spot with 130 points and seven first-place nods. Converse was third with 123 points and two first-place tallies while Mount Olive garnered the final first-place vote and 98 points to rank fourth.
Southern Wesleyan rounded out the top five with 90 points and were followed by Erskine (84), North Greenville and Belmont Abbey (74), Lees-McRae (56), Emmanuel (52), Francis Marion (42), Barton (40) and Chowan (16).
Teams begin competition on Friday, Sept. 2, 2022 and will have two months before the 2021 Conference Carolinas Championship on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
